Planning Stages

Hello all,

New member here and while I don’t yet have a truck I am leaning towards the Tacoma.
I started flipping houses 3 months ago and currently drive an 05 Mustang vert which is not too conducive to hauling plywood or appliances. I have been researching different trucks for fuel economy, size, price etc. and am favoring the Toyota Tacoma.
The Tacoma seems to be the best value for the money. I am looking at the Honda Ridgeline, Chevy Colorado and the Tacoma. I need 4 doors so I can strap the kid seats in the back. The Tacoma offers the longest bed of all three, is the cheapest and has the best MPG. I have owned a lot of vehicles and find that the best place to get a feel for a car (or truck in this case) are these user forums. Thanks for all the great posts. Hopefully I’ll be able to contribute some day.

Welcome. Cruise the truck sections here for info, but don't be surprised to hear some people dump on your other options...a kinda biased crowd, but overall good peeps.

My neighbor just bought an SR5 4x4 Taco. Sweet truck, wouldn't mind trading in my Bravada for one with a shell.

Unhappy Can't Sell It for That...

So after reading these forums, checking out competing vehicles, figuring out cost of ownership etc, I decided on the Tacoma 6 Cyl, Double Cab, Long Bed.
Mainly compared to Colorado and Dakota and while the Toyota.com build a car price is higher than my other options, figured it was still a better deal because of extra features, MPG and Resale. But.... Can't Find One... even at sticker price and when I inquired with 2 local dealers about ordering one, they told me 2 to 3 months and they couldn't sell it to me for the Toyota.com price!
I was going with the Taco over the Dakota but the 8 Cyl Dakota is 5K less.
Any Chicago dealer recomendations?
