UK problem with electrical / head lights

1982 Pick up diesel

Head lights, turn on off of there own free will which of course is problematic for night driving!
I'm assuming it can't be the fuse. I'm also going to assume it is a problem with wiring once the two sides come together as both go on and off together. If I flick the switch on and off they come back on sometimes. Is it possible its the switch mechanism. The dash and rear lights stay on at all times.
If anyone has any ideas of how to go about fixing this, or exactly what the problem is I would be glad to here from you.

Might check the wiring at the connectors, had similar problem due to corrosion at the connector. With lights on start probing and pulling on the wiring under the dash.

Or could be the light switch or headlight relay. Sometimes the headlights are on circuit breakers instead of fuses.
