Master Mechanic here!

Hi all, figured I'd introduce myself. I have been wrenching on cars since 1989, I have my masters certification with BMW, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and... ahem Kia. I have been building High performance toys for people with more money than me for many years and have had around 20 of my builds in magazines and on displays and tours across the US. I will be looking to help out with tech related problems mostly, also to interject smart a$$ comments here and there too. if I cannot figure out the problem, my friend has been a service writer for toyota for 5 years, so he may have the answers.

ah i think they are getting better but they still have their issues.... i would compare the technology and reliabilty of them today compared to honda's in the late 80's and early 90's... and i am talking about the new ones... the older cars are pretty bad off....

they are getting better than the early ones, however the big issue I have with them is they dont update parts that fail, ac compressors on the sedona vans up to model year 2006 fail constantly. we go through 45-60 per week in the summer, the parts we put on are the same crap that broke in the first place, I have put 9 compressors on one van in 1 week!!! intakes on sorento suv's develope a vacuum leak around 12-15k, the replacement ones do the same thing. very few problems with the spectra 5 though, so far.....

on the sedona's the only thing that goes wrong with them is the clutch shorts to open!...... and the sorento thing is the front bushing starts to pop out.... aint found a fix for that one yet..... they finally updated the sorento FTPS sensor... it used to always short out.... would read full 5v reference.....
starting with the 06 sedona's they had a new problem with the ac compressors.... about a sort of rattle sound.... updated the clutch to replace... since about 07 things have been getting better.... like the new gds which seems to be with toyota, ford and nissan i think..... the new 3.8 seems to be a good solid motor... much more improved since the 3.5 plus the new v8 that is coming out.... and new spectra seems to be alright consider kia.... the rio has had a few transmission problems... 5spd... vibration while in 5th gear under a load.......

love the new 3.8L motors, REALLY like doing tensioners on the vans, 13hrs labor for 3.5 hrs of work. I've done about 35 sets, also had a few replacement sets fail due to not ratcheting correctly. cha ching!

<86 4Runner

Hey, I see you are here in Phoenix. I am looking for a GOOD diagnostic mechanic for some help with my '86 runner. Problem is way to much to describe here, I know my way around an engine but am stuck on this. I need someone that will be willing to listen to the work I have already done so I don't double up on stuff...and of course reasonably priced. You? Your friend? or another suggestion maybe? Thanks...William

I do a fair bit of side work, usually building Subarus and Evos, clutch installs and trans rebuilds. I could give you a hand if needed. I live out in Maricopa, work in scottsdale, let me know your issue in a PM and we can get this ball rolling.

May you can help. My Sienna Van has a leak coming from under the front passenger seat from what appears to be a heat exchanger(heat core). How hard is it to replace. I know the seat has to come out and that seems easy enough but after that??
