Camry Newbie Here

I am looking to buy my first Camry but having troubles picking the correct year. I read some bad things about the 04 model and thats the one I'm looking at. I want a 04 XLE 4cyl. and its fully loaded but theres people on Edmunds telling me it either good or really bad yr. What to do here?

I have an 04

that I just bought with 27,000 miles on it and it drives/handles as smooth as I would expect from a Camry. What bad things have you heard? please share.

Things like the steering column needed replaced, loud road noise as though it wasn't insulated very well and some have even said the car wasn't painted but with only one coat and no clearcoat because it scratches easily. I was just researching this model on Edmunds before I bought the one at a dealer here. Thats why I need someone who actually has this model and talk to me. I have an opportunity to buy a XLE loaded and I need some insight. S talk to me and tell me if I should buy it or not.

well I cannot speak upon the steering problem, my 04 just now has 28,000 miles on it and I only have had it for 2 weeks and it drives like a dream. I drive on the highway daily and the ride is as quiet as I would expect it to be. I cant say for what may/will happen, but I love the car and when Im done I will be purchasing a newer model. Camry's have yet to let me down so I intend on sticking with them.

Hey, I get the picture but I went on Edmunds and started going the list for 04 and there were quite a few unhappy people and there were also those who were very happy. I ran into a 04 at a dealer here in my home city and I looked at it for a short period because I HATE car dealers with a passion. This dealer is full of vultures as with all dealers. This XLE was clean but I noticed a scratch and then I remembered that someone aslo said this model has no clearcoat and was only one coat of paint. This sounded far fetched but those things stick in your mind. I went onto another website but nobody replied so I get no other insight..........
