another new guy
hello all, just trying to get into toyotas and wheeling. live in central texas and have a mud park and a new place with some trails right by the house.
in september i got a 87 single cab,4 cyl,5 spd, thorley header, davis ignition, weber carb. 33" bfg mud terrains. i think a body lift(i do not really know) 275000 miles. guy said motor had been rebuilt.
anyway, runs fine. top speed of about 62. forget 5th gear. went a bought 31" tires saturday. now top speed up to near 70. still 5th gear is useless.
this is just a toy. have a 06 crew cab tacome 4x4.
went out sunday with 2 jeeps playing. put truck into 4 low. wow. walk up stuff the jeeps could not think of. had to pull both jeeps.
i do not care about driving it on the highway, never more than 30 miles away. i would like to get some more power. i think i should check compression first to be sure of that. then maybe get a cam and maybe a head. maybe change to 4.88 gears.
would really like to hear some ideas. what to do and what not to. lift or no lift, how much. all help and opinions will be great.
