Hi everyone: I'm retired and an owner of a 93' Toyota truck, Xcab, with V6, 98,000 miles. I am just getting into self maintenance of my truck and am not a seasoned mechanic, but have lots of time. Problem is I think with the shift solenoids because of erratic shifting from dead stop the trans gear starts in 3rd or 4th gear. I can get going by down shifting to low and then progress upwards once I get moving. Also, while driving on the road the O/D light flickers on my dash board even though the button for the O/D light is not pushed in. Any one out there having this problem at 98,000 miles? If its not the solenoids, then maybe a relay switch or sensor? I found out that the vulva of the transmission might have up to 3 solenoids (I think I can drop the trans pan and get to them myself). Should I even attempt to diagnose the problem myself, or should I take it to the dealer? Got a good site to purchase a solenoid (I suppose all the solenoids are the same?) Your opinions would be gladly appreciated!
