New 08 Highlander Owner
Well, it is new to us with 15K miles-2-wheel drive base model but after market leather seats were added. My wife insisted she needed 3 seats to cart the grandkids around and this seemed to fill the bill the best. I'm a bit concerned about having decent fuel mileage and I know she won't like trying to jockey a ponderous SUV around for very long. We've owned it now for 4-5 weeks and she still loves it and I have to say it is growing on me too. It seems to do so many things well. I live in Texas and ride bicycles and am a life long car guy(I have 3500Sq ft of shop as a result). We just returned from a little jaunt to Wichita Falls for the Hotter 'n Hell 100 bike ride with 4 people in the car, 4 bikes on the hitch mount carrier and another 100 pounds of gear and junk. We got a manually calculated 23.54 mpg on the tank-driving around 72 on the highway. About one-third of the tank was around town driving. We are pleased as that fit within my expectations. My son who is 6'5" rode in the back and had plenty of room. We all love the easy entry and exit and adjustable rear seats. The A/C works well too.
I've been reading some posts on the site which are interesting and informative. My main dislike so far is the electric power steering which is way too vague-reminds me of a '69 Chrysler-I'll have to get over it I guess. The vehicle really has more than adequate power. I'm sure anyone who tows things will fully appreciate it, but drivng around on the flatlands doesn't require this much juice. Probably another reason why my wife likes it.
I ordered and installed a nice trailer hitch off of eBay and am in the process of installing two headrest DVD players to keep the little ones entertained. This is my first Toyota as I'm a long-term Euro Car guy but no one else makes anything close on all counts of size, fuel mileage, reliability, etc. but you all KNOW that already, I'm just a slow adopter!
We are just looking forward to becoming another happy Toyota owner. I've been recommending them to friends for years-now I've finally have one of my own.
What? No Texas flag in the post icons?
Best Regards,
Wayne Hyde
