So I just secured a winter car, it's a 1989 AWD Corolla sedan. The car lived a previous life as a rally car, so it has a rollcage and a switch panel on the dash for the fuel pump, horn, lean/rich switch, etc. It has a mostly complete interior, minus the stereo.
No need for a stereo though, because the engine sounds sweet! From what I've gathered so far, it's a 4AGE. The previous owner said it's a 1.8L block with a 1.6L head on it. It revs to 8000RPM, and has no torque down low but comes on nicely at 5000RPM. Output is a claimed 160hp.
The rear axle came out of an AE86, complete with disc brakes.
Appearance-wise it's fairly stock-looking, the paint is grey primer which looks several years old. There has been some rust repair (or coverup as the case may be) and there is some surface rust on most of the body, but I don't care about that. Nothing a coat of black primer can't fix. Rubber mudflaps at all four corners add that purposeful look.
The car also has a roof rack with a ski box on it, so this car will be perfect for getting to the hill on those powder days! I can't wait!
That's about all I know about the car, as I'm new to Toyotas. I've asked the previous owner to get me as much info as he can, because he knows the man who converted the car to race spec and rebuilt the engine. I'll be picking it up at the end of next week, so good pics won't be up till then. I have a few from the previous owner. In the meantime, the current/previous owner will graciously redo the front brakes.
As for myself, I'm in the Montreal area. I drive an 03 cobra convertible in the nice months.
Does anybody have any links or info on these AWD seedans? All I find is stuff on the dog-ugly wagons, and regular FWD sedans, and the coupes.
So, hello to all and I hope this is a cool place to hang out!
