gas to diesel conversion

Hello Toyota nation,
I have a 1992 truck I would like to keep. 200,000 miles and two head gaskets later, #6 cylinder has no compression. I have confirmed that it is the rings, probably compression rings. She runs great but gas mileage is horrid (9 mpg) and emissions are probably rude. Do any of you have experience switching out the 3VZE engine with a diesel? Is that just crazy talk? and how many more miles of service can I expect from the automatic tranny?

Anything is possible.. I would suggest posting your question in the Hardcore Tech section. The Wiz's over there can better answer your question.

Might be better off $$ wise selling this truck and buying a diesel.

To get long auto trans life make sure the trans fluid is in good shape. Change it every 20-30K miles.
