2007 Sienna LTD

Greetings from the Halifax NS. Last year we purchased our 3rd Sienna before moving to Canada from Ohio. This time we went all out and got the loaded LTD. Great vehicle, but we have been having trouble with the automatic doors. Sometimes they wouldn't close all the way, but then, for no apparent reason, it would start working properly again. This was happening regardless of the temperature. Recently the passenger sliding door locked and would not open. We took it into the dealer and they are telling us we need an $800.00 repair to pay for a new door motor!!! Our car is now at 40,000 miles so they say they won't cover it under warranty, even though we have been having these troubles with the doors for sometime. I was wondering if anyone else has heard of this problem and if Toyota has gone good for the repair. Thanks for your help.

Did you complain about the issue when the car was under warranty and did the dealer make a note of it?

There have been major issues with door on 200?-06. It appears to be a design defect. Not sure if the issue continued into 2007 but suggest a Google search for hits.

Thought there was something about adjusting the cable that pulls the door open/closed too tight can result in motor failure. But this was owners who do their own work.

We did inform our dealer, but each time we took it in, the door seemed to work fine. They did make a note of it on the work sheet though. However, it is now no longer under warranty and the dealer tells us that they can't help us. Seems like a the dealer is aware of the door issue, but that is as far as they can take it. They suggested we contact Toyota USA. Thanks very much for the information. If it is an ongoing issue with other vans, then perhaps they will step up and do the right thing.

There is a Toyota Technical Service Bulletin out for 2004-2007 Sienna dealing with the sliding and rear power doors (if you have this) not fully closing. The fix was to replace the door sensors.

If this was your problem the dealer should have completed the TSB when you first complained.

FYI, USA dealers set aside funds to fix problems in situation, assuming they want to. Suppose a long time customer has a problem like this. The dealer can spend their own money to fix it in order to keep the customer happy.

In the US getting after warranty repairs done at Toyota Corp expense is very difficult, good luck.
