new poster with a problem

Hello! I am the owner of a 97 Camry that now has 171,ooo miles on it. I have loved this car since I bought it.Never had a major problem,a fuel pump, a timing belt change, normal things.Ihave never had a check engine light come on until now.the code reads P O 172, too rich bank 1. It is a four cylinder, so what bank 1 means is beyond me. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The code means the computer is running the engine rich to compensate for an engine system problem.

The 4 cylinder has only 1 bank (Bank 1). The V6 has 2 banks, Bank 1 closest to the firewall and Bank 2 closest to the radiator.

Any other codes. Any reference to something like Bank 1, Sensor 1, etc.

Issues that can cause the are:

Exhaust system leak
Fuel pressure issues
Injector leakage
02 sensor, Bank 1 Sensor 1
MAP sensor
Coolant sensor

Typically it is the 02 sensor. This would be the first sensor in the exhaust system going from the cylinder head.

No other codes, just bank 1. I did have the injectors cleaned and the fuel filter replaced yesterday, but the check engine light came on again. Do I have to go to Toyota to find out what the problem is? Does their analyzer pinpoint the problem?
