New From Northern Illinois
Bill from Northern Illinois. In the process of saving a 91 Toyota truck from the salvage yard. Not too rusted which is unusual for around this part of the country. Only 82K Chain guide broke and timing chain rubbed a groove in the timing chain cover behind the water pump. The guy said it over heated so I went and took the head off also Did the head gasket and new chain, gears, had the head decked and valves ground. I have heard so much about how good and durable toyotas are, I find it hard to believe since many trucks need head gaskets and timing chains so soon. Thanks to information from here and parts from enginebldr I think I have it done. Took me about 24 total hours time but I think I have it, just idles fast and it did that before I took it apart. Any suggestions? Thanks for all of the great information on this site. What other rims may fit this thing, it has ugly rusty steel rims on it now. Would like to find some aluminum ones to put on it. I need tires anyway someone punctured all 4 of them before I owned it. The owner left it parked on the street last halloween night. I put patches on the outside of the side walls to tow it home!! All 4 held up. Great site keep up the good work.
