New here and getting an MR2 project car
Hey guys, my name's Matthew and I'm new here. I've got a pretty long story so I'll make it brief.
I'm the owner of a 2009 Corolla daily driver and my girlfriend has a 2007 Yaris. Unfortunately, I just traded in my 2008.5 Mazdaspeed3 for the Corolla. Long story short, after 13,000 miles I was almost completely bolted on stock boost but had a smoking turbo and some datalogs showed that my internals weren't healthy. Can't have a blown engine and car payment, especially when mazda wants over $10k to replace the motor. My girl and I are trying to buy a house so I got something cheaper and reliable.
I have a project car now, it kind of fell into my lap. It's a 1993 Mazda MX-6 V6 5-speed for $200. It needs brakes, suspension, full redo on the ignition system, a windshield, clutch, flywheel and two axles. Good news is that everything it needs is brand new in the trunk except for the axles and winshield. I'm going to most likely fix it up and sell it for a project car I really want. The car isn't pretty and isn't fast, and the money it would take to make it fast isn't worth it to me.
When I get the MX-6 running right and sell it, I am going to be looking into a second gen MR2. I've realized that I can't find a factory turbo one without breaking the bank, so I will most likely get one n/a. I have been on here for about a week doing research on engine builds and swaps... it might take me a year or two to build or save up and buy the motor I want, but I'm planning on holding onto the MR2 for a long time, so that's not necessarily an issue.
I'm coming from the honda world (had a DC Integra) and then had the Mazdaspeed3. I do have a friend with a 5SFE Camry who is boosting it right now. This place seems way more intelligent than the other boards I've been on and I'm happy to be here.
