Hello all you fellow Tacoma owners! I bought an 08 Tacoma double cab in a color I just fell in love with ,SPEEDWAY BLUE!! My truck is just1 yr. old but there seems to be lots of little scratches! As a matter of fact I can take my finger nail and write my name in the finish. Took it to toyota and they have said this is normal!!! I asked them if it could be the dealer applied($350)Diamond kote! No. They have said everything from it is normal , to since toyota changed to water based paint the finish is like this, service manager told Import finishes will never measure up too a domestic!( as a guy over hearing our conversation tried to write his name in his shiny black dodge finish..To no avail) then to top it of one of the service writers said it is just my nails!!Anybody else having problems and any suggested solutions?? I had the truck at a three detailing places and they said they have never seen anything like this!!! Very soft finish!!

to Toyota Nation! Sorry to hear about the problems with your truck's finish, but if it's any consolation you're not alone. Do a search of the Tacoma forum for scratch issues with paint, and it'll turn up at least a couple of threads discussing it.

Hello! I too have the same exact year and color. I complained several times and was told the same exact thing. I was told: "it's rocks from the road" and: "it's normal wear and tear!"

I now have several big chips off my paint and am worried about rust! I love my truck but, now what??

Sorry to hear about your trucks finish.

Have you washed and waxed it regularly?

OH YES! I treat her like a little baby! She's been detailed! She's only been to "Brushless" car washes. She's been waxed, washed, etc.

I've been to the toyota dealer only to be swatted away like I'm crazy! There is definitely something wrong with the '08 paint jobs! I've heard numerous complaints all over the internet. Still nothing is done about it. Every few weeks I see a new paint chip...
