USA New '09 Highlander Owner from MA

Hey, all. I just joined after taking delivery of my 2009 Highlander (base V6, green).

Not much to tell about the car. It's leased, so it will stay pretty stock. I bought the car because I have a really badly herniated disc, and couldn't get in or out of the sedan I used to drive (my wife's '02 Subie Impreza). I wanted something smaller than a Highlander, but we also have an Outback wagon, which is maxed out space-wise after 1 kid, so if we have another, we'd end up buying a Highlander anyway, so I figured this was a good move. My wife can just take it if we have another kid, and I'll take the Outback from her.

I have to say, after only 2 days of driving, I'm really enjoying the Highlander. Very smooth and enjoyable...buying it was really a no brainer. It's a solid car and really easy to own. Our Outback is a bit more refined (it's a Limited with leather), but the Base version is fine, and the price was right, so you can't complain.

About me - I founded and run a VW and Audi enthusiast forum similar to this one (www.b5one.com). These sites are so crucial to the ownership process. I used to own a Passat that I had heavily customized, which is how I got into VWs, but I owned a Corolla before that, and was a Toyota salesman for a (very short) while. Always been a total car nut, and loved my VW, but got sick of the constant flow of problems it had (luckily, all under warranty, but who wants to go to the dealer at least once a month?), so, while I run a site for VW/Audi fans, and I appreciate the cars still, I can't see myself buying one again (ok, maybe an Audi A5, if my back ever stops hurting!).

Anyway, just sayin' hi, and glad this place exists.

to Toyota Nation from another Highlander owner (2008). Hope to see you in the Highlander section, and, BTW, check out the sticky section there too.

Thanks a lot, TrailDust. I've been reading through a lot of the posts and stickies to learn about all the things I should expect or ways to improve my ownership experience. I've already noticed you're pretty prolific and know your stuff. Same for a few others (summerwind comes to mind, too).

Good stuff in this forum. Glad I joined.

Thanks for the compliment, which is much appreciated! I agree, summerwind is a very knowledgeable, good guy. I really enjoy the Highlander forum because it's got so many great people in there, and the quality of the participation there too makes my job so easy. Looking forward to seeing you there, and if you have any questions don't hesitate to shoot me a private message.

Just posted in the thread about the rear bumper cover - might be helpful for you if you haven't taken the plunge yet. I've installed a lot of parts like this, so I shared some tips.
