Hello! My name is Craig and I am a Toyota addict.
This is just to introduce myself to The Forum. I am new here but not new to Toyota.
My First new Toyota was a 1967 Land Cruiser. I was living in Gallup, NM at the time and four-wheel-drive was essential.
In 2001, I retired and started planning a trip to Alaska. I had a 1992 Land Cruiser then but my clueless little brother convinced me that with 180,000 miles, it wasn't reliable enough to make that trip. On January 2, 2002, I noticed a 2001 Tacoma AC TRD on a dealer's lot in St. Louis and just to satisfy little brother, took delivery the same day. He worries too much. But as a Ford owner, he has been preconditioned to accept mechanical failure. I sold the LC but the new owner recently told me that it is still running great at 240,000 miles and he has had no problems at all. Little brother needs to get the feeling.
The Taco has been to Alaska twice. I drove the Haul Road to Deadhorse and made the trip to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories on the infamous Dempster Highway. The OEM tires and Bilstein shocks didn't make the trip but other than that, it was flawless. After my second trip to Alaska, (once is not enough) I got the recall on the lower ball joints but with 76,000 miles, they must have been OK. I let the dealer replace them anyway. The Taco now has 142,000 miles on the clock and other than belts, tires, shocks, break pads, and one side marker bulb, there have been on mechanical failures. I just hope the '05 Tundra is as good but I kept the Tacoma just in case.
I purchased a used 1995 Corolla when gas hit $4 for wife to commute and have yet to drive it but I did ride in it once. Only God knows how many miles it has. The speedometer only works part time. She just drives it by ear. She saw a sharp 1996 T100 on a used car lot last year and it followed her home. Number one son has adopted it and even though my name is not on the title, I am putting it on the list. I think the total is up to seventeen, if I counted correctly and between the three of us, the miles are in the millions.
I signed up to get some help with the T100 but hope that I can make some small contribution to this forum.
