'98 4Runner 383,000 miles eng. rebuilt
Have just been given a 1998 base 4Runner 2.7L 4 cyl. from the in-laws. Odometer shows 383k miles (mostly highway), but engine has been rebuilt once at around 180k (mother-in-law failure to acknowledge the oil light). Original tranny great shape, original exhaust needs to be replaced. Driver seat vinyl is torn on the side from entering and exiting so many times. Missing mud flap on psngr side. A few rust specks here and there, but overall the body is in great shape.
I am definitely a Toyota fan although I own a '01 Honda Odyssey as well. Have previously owned a '85 Camry manual tran. for about 3 years, an '88 Celica GT manual tran. for 9 years. The average age of vehicles I buy is between 7 and 8 years old. Overall, I like their products as well as their business philosophy. I think keeping the unions out is a big reason for their greater success compared to the domestics.
I have been interested in owning a 4Runner for quite some time, but never made the jump for whatever reason. So here goes. I have had for about two months and am enjoying it. Just going to try to get it back up to tip-top shape and may even buy some "factory" alloys at some point. This thing could last another 10 years.
