dear friends, yesterday i bought a 1992 toyota celica 2.0 GT-I 16 (ST182) today we began to strip the right fender because of some damage and the front bumper as well, when we were checking the engine, we saw something strange at the camshaft gears or sprockets cover, the exhaust camshaft rip its side of the cover, we started to remove belt, alternator, engine mount, we took the cover out, and to our surprise the camshaft gear was broken from the cam, the sprocket or gear, not familiar which word you use for it still had the bolt with a half of the piece of the cam, the other half was there loose, any pointers of what could have happen there? the car has 191,700 kms, many thanks in advance

I snapped a cam in a Vette once, too much hp for the 30+ year old piece of metal to take. No telling what could have happened in your case.
