Hello from State College PA!
Hi Everyone, my name is Travis, long time reader of TN, first time poster!
My family has owned Toyotas for years, my father's 95' Camry V6 was at 400,000 mi before it succumbed to rust, giving him, "The poor man's coilovers" I'm sure a lot of you with rusty car with stock supension know what I'm taking about :P
Anyway, enough about that! Several months ago I purchased my first car, a Green 99 Camry V6 5spd manual (162,000 mi) from the original old lady owner. When I made the purchase I was pretty sure I had everything covered, (you know, they changed the timing belt and plugs at 95k, always had the oil changed etc) but later found out she had 4 mean sons who gave the car a fair beating...needless to say that means I've got some repairs to do, but it's nothing I can't handle!
I picked up a Haynes manual off of eBay, and so far I've replaced the tires and rims (the stock wheels were damaged badly), %100 replaced the exhaust system (catalytic converter and all, not cheap =(, patched a hole in the floorboard (fiberglass patch + undercoating). I still need to replace the suspension, do a lot of body work (thankfully not much rust, but a bunch of minor accidents happened to the car...) and replace the charcoal canister, and also a weird problem that sometimes requires me to pump the accelerator before starting (I feel like I'm priming a carb, lol - fuel injection perhaps?)
Toyota Nation has always been a fantastic resource for me, and I'm looking forward to share what knowledge I have and give back a little. My car is pictured in my signature =)
~Trav
