introduction

OK, I'm old school, Old fashioned, and just plain old. Done my share of mods, learned that stock lasts longer. Essentially a big car small block V8 person. Gas prices forced me to consider half an engine, sitting on a roller skate, tuna can firmly on my head Japanese, used import. I chose pre 80's Toyota Celicas. Ya know, 20 yr old then car.....Price, $800, Still my choice for a daily driver. Nasty little car! Dare I say the word "Hatchback"? I'm not really restoring this thing, I just keep it running. 1978 Toyota Celica GT......Ass kicking advantages? Rear wheel drive! 30 + yrs old, Better and faster sportscar than the Nissan 6 cyl Z car it was designed to beat. Ya know 240, 260 and them dogs. Celica was so cool b4 they went to front drive. Now my little '78 Celica runs all stock. Handles like a real car, None of this auto tranny crap! 5 speed, 9" clutch, 20 R motor does the overhead cam with a double row steel timing chain, stock! None of this rubber belt crap! Iron block, Iron tranny case. This thing hooks up, Runs like the proverbial raped ape! V6 and 90% of V8 challengers...... Meat off the stoplights to me. Hell,
my first gear winds out at 5,000 rpm around 30 mph!......5,000 r's in second can top 50 mph. still turn the tires when i dump it into third. Hard as i push it this wimpy little 4 banger takes it and gives me 25 mpg on city streets and 28 mpg on the freeways at 80mph. No new car with an ET faster than a concrete mixer can beat that!
Still sux in a way, gotta compare with what on the road. My 1971 smallblock V8 chevy PU will burn this car loaded to 9,000lb GVW Off stoplights, sure! Pickup gets 9mpg in town, 16 on the highway......maybe.
Fast cars? I got none, All i got is 120 mph. 80% of fast is the driver.

Thanks for the welcome. I don't think I'll ever modify The "GT Celica" It's too balanced a car to mess with. My '78 GT Celica is where I get my handle. "Po Boy" sportscar. Lookit what U get in new cars these days? 30 mpg and a lotta shit U don't want. Hey, it's a car. And this little wussy car tells U to buckle in?
Yer door is a JAR? I don't need that crap to drive something! Just because FWD is more fuel efficient don't make it likeable. I wanted a Pig on Ice I'd ride a pig!. Kinda amazes me that 95 hp cars from the 50's weighed up to 3 tons and got 19-23 mpg, and 95 hp cars from the 80's weighed half that and got 19-25 mpg, and now in 2010 we get 200 hp cars that get 30 mpg and the weight going up to ton and a half. And all this time from the early 50's till now 1/4 mile ET on all these cars is around 17 sec? I don't really see a lotta progress here. Just speaking Toyota, who the hell is Greener here? Me or the guy with the New Prius? gonna take the prius owner about 30 yrs to equal my price/vs oprtating costs. OOPS! My car cost me less than $800 over 3 yrs ago! 28 mpg V/S 30 something not a contest! U don't worry much about Prius on a crooked mtn road while running the doors off Camaros and Thunderbirds and Shelby Mustangs. Open the hood! Show that 20R.....DID I tell u, it's a "NASTY" little car?.
