Hi from a disappointed Avalon owner

I just bought a certified 2006 avalon touring. I love the ride and look but can do without all the trips to the dealer for repairs. They're definitely losing money on the warranty!

I'd be interested to know what problems you have too. I've got a 2002 and in eight years of ownership have only had two issues: An electronic fuel injection computer that failed, and a driver's window motor that failed. Overall I've been extremely happy with my Avalon. BTW, welcome to the nation!

I'll take it! I've been wanting an Avalon for awhile now. The only thing I have seen go wrong with them is the vacuum switching valves die when they get a bit older.

Welcome to the forums!

Sorry to hear about the bad luck you've been having with your Avalon. Hopefully you won't have to visit the dealer again. Although I suppose it's a good thing that the problems are arising while the warranty is still void, or you'd probably be paying an arm and a leg to get it fixed.

Best of luck, and once again, welcome

You want it please take it

So far it's been in the shop 6 times in 5 months. Collectively, I've driven the car 4 out of the 5 months because it's been in the shop that many times.

I had to have the evaporator replaced(horrible musty smell), spoiler reconnect(bolts popped off), passenger door resealed, steering column replaced(unlocked while driving and almost lost control), now they're telling me I either need new fuel injectors, spark plugs or coils (the car jerks and the engine and VSC light come on), the sloppy gearing has almost gotten me into an accident b/c the car won't stop properly.

I bought the car b/c my father in law had and 03 and it's a dream. But outside of all the above I love the car.

Sorry but I had two Maxima's prior to this and the only repairs I did were tires, brakes and serpentine belts which got me to 160k and 135k miles.

welcome sorry for your bad luck. i would say they are great cars. my opinion the previous owner didnt maintain it very well. hope they can work everything out befor the warrenty is up . take advantage of the fact you have warrenty and everything wrong with the car take it in to get serviced, you dont want headaches down the road to cost $$$$$ how many miles??

Does Pennsylvania have a "lemon law"? If so that may be your avenue of pursuit.

I'm actually working with a very helpful person at Toyota Corp who told me to ask for this right to be invoked. May sounds crazy, but if they don't buy the car back I may ask for a trade up to a 2010 at no additional cost

Your situation reminds me of what happened to one of my parents friends. They know a lady who is filthy rich that bought a brand new Jaguar for around $170,000 NZD. A few days later it was already in the shop. Since then it had been back in the shop about 5 more times and they eventually diagnosed the problem to be a faulty ECU (which took about 4-weeks to figure out). The ECU was going to cost the company an absolute fortune to replace and was going to take over a month to order from overseas, so in the end she demanded that they refund her the money that she paid for it.

The dealer refused, but after she got her lawyer involved they paid out straight away. Goes to show that even things that are meant to be built to perfection still have their flaws and complications. Hang in there, I hope you get the result you're after.
