The offset is the distance that the edge of the wheel sits from the inside or outside of the fender and suspension components. A positive (+) offset would sit closer to your suspension components and be tucked inside the fender, and a negative (-) offset would sit further out from the suspension components and poke out the side of the fender (like your ones).
There is nothing wrong with this however. A lot of people do it on purpose. The only drawback is if you go too low on the rear (either by sacking it with coilovers or carrying passengers) you'll bottom out unless you roll the rear fender lips. When I put 17's on my 93 Corolla, I used an offset that was more negative than the offset of the standard wheels, so needed to get my rear fenders rolled to stop my tyres being chewed up every time I went over a speed-bump or down a steep driveway. If you're not experiencing any problems then I wouldn't worry about it
