repair or junk it ?

Hello, I have 89 camry all-trac 3s-fe w/ 260,000 miles on it. It was diagnosised as losing compression in one of cylinder a while ago. I kept driving it for about a year and now oil is coming out from dipstick tube and burns oil on the manifold(?). I had friend of mine tight nuts on valve cover gasket too tight (supposed to be 17 but I think it was tighted to 32). does this issue reflect my problem with compression loss or oil leakage from the dipstick tube? I know it is not equipped with pcv valve. valve cover is one of component to controll pcv system. everyone is telling me to junk my favorite car because it is going to cost too much. Is this true?

Welcome to the forums!

Sorry to hear about the engine trouble you're having. I see you've made a thread in the Camry forum, so I hope the knowledgeable folks in there can assist you.

Best of luck, and once again, welcome

Like Kiwi mentioned, the Camry forum is your best bet for an answer. Also, it would be a good idea to use that forum's search feature to see if any past threads have dealt with a compression issue similar to yours.

If your engine can't "breathe" , the oil pressure will find the easiest route out. Tightness of valve cover bolts/nuts will NOT cause the symptom you're describing.
You valve cover must have a breating tube of some type. Make sure it's pathway is clear. The engine should have a PCV valve somewhere.
Rebuilding an engine is cheaper than buying another car-especially if you like/love your car.$3-$5K if someone does it for you.
Welcome to the forum.
