Noku here

Jus' joined today and would like to extend my ALOHA to all.

Bought a 98 Camry XLE V-6 last week and plan to get it in good working condition. It has 103xxx miles on it and needs new front tires and alignment. Engine and tranny strong but suspension feels a "little old". Hoping that the new tires and alignment will perk it up a bit.

This is my first true Toyota but I've owned lesser similar vehicles like a Geo Prizm, 00 Lexus ES300 and currently drive a 02 Lexus RX300 (hand me down from my wife). Got really basic mechanical skills (wheel and track vehicle mechanic as a part timer in the national guard) and probably forgot a lot more than I would like to admit.

I would like to give everyone here a really big MAHALO in advance for giving me any thoughts, advice, recommendations and opinions to any/all of my queries.

Noku

Thanks for the warm welcome TD, hope to learn a lot here and maybe contribute a little too. I use to be into cars a lot a long time ago when they were much easier to understand, mainly a 70 Chevelle 350 cid, 4 speed manual trans. Did most everything to it except for touching the heads and block. Now only change my own oil so a lot to learn here.

Hi Noku, welcome to Toyota Nation!

The Camry sounds good, the tires and alignment should make a nice difference to the way to it handles - And at 100,000 miles, the engine's only just breaking itself in

Enjoy the forums

Yeah that Aiea Manapua Store by the library gotta be one of the best places to grind. Their monster tonkatsu musubi is a winner too and in the morn they have this fried rice wrapped with egg which sells out pronto.

I kinda looking for camry stock rims because the car parked on the street and where I live, kids throw eggs on nice cars or bust your windows. A real pain in the butt.

My Mom wrote me yesterday and said someone broke into my sista's house and took a bunch of stuff. And that some people have been broken into while at home by people with sawed off shot guns and robbing them at gun point.
Man, whats happening?

The economy here really sucks, so not too much jobs to go around. I guess some guys need money for food or jus' to get by. But da violent kind stuff probably due to or because of drugs (ice). Know one guy whose mother got killed because of break-in about 6 years ago. Sorry to hear 'bout your sista's house. Got alarm service at my place and plan to put security cameras too. No can trust nowdays.

Good idea.
I know what you mean about the ice.
My niece in Ewa Beach died because of it.

Good idea with the security cameras. I installed some at my place at the end of last year. I haven't needed any footage from them so far (touch wood), but they should prove to be invaluable if I ever do. Just be sure to get security cameras with a decent resolution, as it defeats the purpose if you use a cheap camera that can't identify the criminals, lol.

Spending a bit extra for the night vision capability is very worth it too, for obvious reasons. If you want to be extra cautious, go for a wireless set-up as opposed to wired, and try to get motion activated cameras so that you're not forever wasting recording time when nothing is there

Mahalo for the tips Kiwi. What you say makes a whole lot of sense. I know that 100% protection is impossible but as long as it's a harder target to hit than the next home, those evil doers may just pass you by.

My condolences about your niece.

Just read my neighborhood newsletter and guess what, the cops caught 3 guys throwing eggs at cars and homes a few blocks from where I live. Someone witnessed their escapades and called it in. Probably there are others involved in these pranks but they gotta think twice about getting caught as people are now watching out for them.
