Thanks for the welcome Jedi and for helping me with my Celica question. You're absolutely right, the 6th generation Celica engine is supposed to be non interference. For some reason though when the timing belt snapped this time, it did some serious damage. The timing belt had been replaced already and when it snapped the first time, she kept running like she should have. However, along the way I've had some really bad luck with shady mechanics and one of them wound up doing some pretty severe damage to the engine while replacing the transmission, put the wrong seals on so it leaked all of its oil every other day, etc. That same mechanic didn't do a tune up properly and one of the plugs blew out as a result which stripped the threads which required HeliCoil. I'm telling you, it was a mess. It was a fantastic car until these people got their hands on it. The Toyota dealership tried everything they could to get me back on the road but we soon realized what we were up against. A rebuilt engine was $6k with labor so that's when I decided to buy the new Celica.
