I recently bought a Toyota vista Ardeo 86,000km , Year 2000.
I need to know a thread or a topic already exists for this car

Hello, and welcome to Toyota Nation!

The Vista Ardeo does not have its own forum here since so few people own them. However, since that model is pretty much a Camry I'd recommend posting up any questions about it to the Camry General Discussion forum. I hope you'll be able to find answers to your issues.

Thanks . But the question is why only so few people own it.
My only concern is some fear about the reliability of the D4 2L 16V S3-FSE engine.
Can any knowlegable guy enlighten me on what to be aware of in this car. other than some rough idling ( I have a P0135 code) I think is attributable to lambda sensor heater failure, i have so issues.

Please comment on the D4 engine

Hi and welcome to TN!

I don't know a whole lot about that engine in particular, but I do know that the Toyota Vista Ardeo was only imported to European and Japanese markets. Perhaps this is why only very few people own them. The 3S-FSE is just a 3S-FE but with Direct Injection meaning it burns very efficiently. Toyota didn't make them for very long, but if the reliability of 3S-FE is anything to go by then I'd say you have nothing to worry about.

This type of engine was also used in the Corona Premio, and a few other vehicles that Toyota produced. As for things to be aware of - The 3S-FSE D4 had an injection gumming problem, but they managed to sort it out when they launched the current direct injection engine, the 1AZ-FSE. So that's something to keep in mind. Might pay to pull them out and check them.

I hope that has helped you in some way, and wish you all the best in finding more info.

I hope you enjoy yourself here on the forums

Vista Ardeo

Hi all,

I'm considering the Vista Ardeo vs the Corolla Fielder both 1800cc 2001/2 models.

My main considerations are fuel economy, maintenance costs and suspension (as i live in a pretty rough potholed area)

Does anyone have any insight into these two models.

Would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Good choice on the Vista Ardeo. My brother was considering buying one before he got the JZX101 because of the D4's supreme fuel efficiency. It complies with Japan's latest J-LEV emission standards. I've heard problems with other direct injection engines but not so much on the 3S-FSE. Just make sure you put in the right fuel because direct injection engines are very strict on it.

Also, the 3S-FSE's intake ports are bent and have a deep-bowl design. That means that it restricts filling of the combustion chamber at high RPMs, therefore limiting higher-end power output.

The 3S-FSE is really very efficient, however, to drive on its recommended powerband because with that you can get around 7L/100 km on city driving!

Vista Ardeo

Thanks for that info.

Are you saying that the D4 (2.0) is more efficient than the VVT (1.8)
I always thought the lower capacity engine would churn out better mpgs.

Yes, the 1ZZ-FE variant on the Ardeo has a combined consumption (10 to 15 modes) of 7.1 L/100 km while the D4 variant does 6.6 L/100 km!

Welcome! I can't comment on the 3S-FSE but like Kiwi-Corolla said ... if the reliability of 3S-FE is anything to go by then I'd agree, you have nothing to worry about. The only 3S-FE I've owned lasted well over 331,000mi and still ran strong when I sold it.
