2010 Highlander Ordered

I ordered a 2010 Highlander Base FWD 3 1/2 weeks ago. Just waiting for it to arrive at the dealership. It's Magnetic Grey and the dealer is trying to get us hooked up with a black interior instead of the tan or grey.

This will be my first Toyota and I'm excited but nervous. My last 4 vehicles have all been Chevy (3) or Ford. I owned a '93 S-10 Extended Cab which was a decent little truck and a '00 Blazer which was also nice. The '97 Mystaque and the '03 Malibu were/are nightmares.

I'm looking forward to giving Toyota a shot and will probably be coming here for maintenance advice. Hopefully I won't have to do as much troubleshooting research as I've had to do with the others.

Hello, Roy, and welcome to the nation! As a fellow Base Highlander owner I can vouch for how enjoyable an ownership experience the Highlander has been. We've got a great Highlander forum with some really good people who contribute, and on that note you may want to check out the DIY stickies located at the top of that forum's page so you can see a shortcut to the most popular information about the vehicle. Any questions, just ask.

Update on my new Highlander

I had called the dealership about two weeks after ordering (1 1/2 weeks before my initial post) and they told me that they didn't have an ETA on my new Toyota but they said they would call me when they had some info. I called them a few days after my initial post here (~4 weeks after ordering) and they still had no information but they told me that it would be August before I had my new ride.

I got a call last Tuesday and the salesman told me that they had actually put the order in 3 times and it had been rejected each time by Toyota because they didn't want to build the vehicle without the power driver's seat or the 6CD changer stereo (which I thought was standard (?) and I honestly don't remember asking them to delete those two items) and they also could not get the vehicle with the black interior.

So at this point they have not been straight with me about my new vehicle. Not a good portent for the future.

I understand it's the end of the manufacturing run for 2010 Highlanders and I understand that Toyota is "all about standardization", as the salesman put it, but I would have liked to have known the very first time Toyota kicked the order out of their system.

Edit: I should mention that I'm not upset with Toyota, just the dealership.

Communication is everything when dealing with customers for any size business. Too bad too many business owners/managers don't understand that simple fact....
