terminal 1986 4rnr

hello, my name is david.

i have owned a 1986 4rnr for many years and i'm afraid that it is terminal. i would appreciate knowing if anyone on the site has any knowledge about the feasibility and potential cost of replacing the original 2.4 L (22RE) engine with the newer 2.7 L 4 cylinder engine. any input would be appreciated.

thank you.

Anything can be done with enough money.
The 22re is a great engine. I think I would consider rebuiding it rather that doing an alien transplant.
Just my 2 cents.
The guys in the 4Runner section may have some ideas for you.

thanks for the note. i appreciate your thoughts. however, here in the west (at our higher elevations) the 22re seems to be overworked. i have rebuilt the engine once and put one remanufactured engine in the vehicle. i would like a little more power to conserve the engine if possible without a great deal of expense.
