hi from VT

Hi. This week I'm letting go of a 1999 Sienna and purchasing a 2005 Sienna XLE. It's a nice upgrade.

I'm a little unnerved by all the new bells and whistles-- not necessary but there they are and I got a good deal. The salesman's mechanic is fixing the sliding door (didn't lock properly) so we can close the deal.

Congratulations on the Sienna upgrade! Like you I tend to buy base models because I don't want or need all the bells and whistles, but, heck, if you found a great deal that's very hard to pass up. Welcome to the forums!

to Toyota Nation!

Good to hear that the dealer is getting the sliding door problem fixed before finalising the deal

Enjoy the new ride

Yes, he says it's an "actuator" that needs to be replaced to make the door lock in response to the electronic signal.

Like I said, it worries me a little, because I like a car that has doors that just "shut," you know.

I'm going to give it try and hope I don't get burned on replacing electronic parts and sensors and other gizmos!
