Canada New Corolla owner

Hey guys, New from Canada here, just picked up a 1994 Corolla mint with no rust and 149,000 miles on it.

I picked it up for a daily driver that I don't have to worry about door dings and rusting.

Is Interior noise while idling and driving pretty bad on older corollas?

Welcome to TN fellow Canuck!

I drive a 7th gen Corolla as well and while there is a lack of sound deadening compared the newer larger and heavier cars, it's still perfectly acceptable as a daily driver.

Welcome to the community!

I also own a 7th Gen Corolla, so you'll no doubt see me in that particular forum. I don't mind the road noise in my Corolla, but if it's too much for you then you could always add Dynamat to the doors, floor, roof etc. This would substantially cut down on the road noise and also improve the audio quality too. There's a lot of great information in the 7th Gen Corolla forum, so you're bound to learn a bunch of things about your new ride

See you around!

Look at your door jamb sticker on the drivers door.

AE101 = 1.6L
AE102 = 1.8L

Alternatively, you can go to toyodiy.com, click on "parts reference" and enter in your VIN number there and it will decode it for you.

Looks like PhatRoyal has helped you out with your question, however there are also a couple of other ways to check which engine you have.

The easiest place to check is on the plate attached to the firewall in your engine bay. Although, if the engine has been changed at some point then there's a chance that this might not be accurate, so the best place to check is on the actual engine itself.

If you look to the right of your exhaust manifold (underneath your top radiator hose), you'll see a series of numbers engraved vertically into the block (you may have to remove your heat-shield to see it). The first two numbers will be what engine it is (4A or 7A). You'll have to get down quite low to see it, but it'll definitely be there. The 4A-FE is the 1.6L and the 7A-FE is the 1.8L.

Here's some photos to show you what I mean (mine says 5A as it's a 5A-FE, which weren't imported to the US) -
