Hello there,
Just posted my first question so I thought I would ramble on over here and introduce myself a bit better. I have an '86 pickup which I have had for nearly 20 of its 24 years. It was a originally a work truck with me in my previous job, and work it did. I can't believe the things I've put this little beast through and seen it roll out the other side. Which is most of the reason that when it came time to replace the head gasket (engine is at 170k), I decided very quickly to undertake the job myself. That was what has led me to this forum.
I have found very useful advice here already and am heartened by the supportive feedback I've read to others from forum users. I have done work on the truck before now, but nothing as serious as a head gasket job - I have much more wood (felling and furniture) experience than steel (truck repairs). But have found that I quite enjoy working on this truck! The openness (and logic) of the engine reminds me of repairing my old MF tractor instead of the feeling of mindboggling confusion I got from looking under the hood of my inlaws Audi for example.

Looking forward to becoming a more active member in this community.

Hi, Mattman! Got to say I'm the same as you, as I've got a lot more experience with wood than with steel. I've always wanted to learn much more about working with metals, like welding. At any rate, it's great to have you join up with us. I'll be seeing you around the truck forums.
