USA Honda transplant

Hi everyone, I just got my first Toyota, a 2000 Corolla with 200k, with nearly all of it easy highway miles. My first Honda was the Civic and now several Accords later I'm happy to find this community. The best feature I find appealing is the tight turning circle of the Corolla, wow!

I've also already found the DIY very usefull on how to change the dash lights since all three were out and couldn't see a thing in the dark.

I'm now looking to see what the hum noise is from the front, dont think it's tires and not convinced it's the bearing. Had this for a week now and so far so good.

Hi, best thing is to get the book to repair the car. Im preaty sure 2000 book is avaliable in most car repair stores, and online. I like HAYNES manual but its up to u.

Also helps to post under the corolla section of the forum if u need any further help. Book missing a few parts but mostly very detailed explanation how to fix anything.

Hum noise sounds like the bearing , there are two i believe.

write this down websites i suggest to get car parts are
rockauto.com for new parts - bearings were like 5$ each especially if there overstock
car-part.com for used parts at junkyards, u can call em to check parts and have em ship it
if u can find a self pull junkyard u can get used parts for way way less then car-part, but u have to get em urself
If u need to get something like gaskets u can get em on ebay, or a engine rebuild kit, or whole engine to keep ur car on the road

autozone is good to get specialized tools, refrigirant, and parts next day or right away, bulbs and stuff

hope that helps

Sounds like you bought a "little old lady from Pasadena" type car that was gently used by it's previous owner. Got to love that!

you guessed it, the lady was in her late 60's or early 70's, she or her son drove 200 miles a day for two years, putting on 100k. I'm still cautiously optimistic this is a good car, the body is great, paint very nice shape, just the hum and both front power windows don't go up very fast, they need a couple minutes rest.

I've drained and flushed the tranny fluid, it's still the original tranny but it's shifting fine.

As for the hum, I'm thinking of just changing the entire hub assembly, can do that myself easier then having the shop pull and push the individual bearing out.

As long as they had regular maintenance performed on the car I don't see why it shouldn't be in excellent condition. Sounds like just about the perfect type of people (and their driving style) to buy a car from.
