Thumbs up New to Forum -- You've Saved My $400 Already!

Hi folks --

I've been a 2005 Tacoma owner since (duh!) June 2005 and live in Northern Virginia. I recently experienced the failure of the overhead compass/temperature disply. The dealer wanted to charge $395 for a new unit.

Last weekend, I began an internet search for a place where I could buy a replacement for less than what the dealer was going to charge me. Well, I found your forum...

I looked at the 2005 Tacoma thread and saw this same problem discussed in detail along with a simple 20-minute repair job. This problem was apparently so common that it deserved its own "sticky."

To make a long story short, I found a posting in which someone posted the details about how to repair the unit, including step-by-step photos.

My repair went as advertised and I saved myself $400! I plan to ask the dealer why they don't make this know to Tacoma and Tundra owners. (I know the answer; but, I just want to put him on the spot.)

Thanks VERY MUCH. I hope I can give as well as take here on the forum.

to TN!
Glad to hear everything went in your favor and you were able to save $400 rather than going to the dealer. Quite a few people on here have all kinds of money saving tips!

Thumbs up

That's so cool you got it fixed and you saved so much money! This site has actually COST me money! LOL! Only because I'm learning so much here than I'm rushing to the wrecking yard every couple days and getting more cool stuff. But you're right, you can save a ton of money if you just search Toyota Nation. Someone, somewhere here, will have the answer. And you're right, some members post some awesome step-by-step instructions and photos. This place has become my FAVORITE site on the internet! Even beats out Facebook and MySpace!

Welcome to the forum! Enjoy yourself here!
