Gen6 new 1989 all tac sedan owner...ae95?

Just thought I'd introduce myself.
I'm deadhp1 from Suffolk County on Long Island, NY.
I've been doing car work with my brother for a couple of years now.
We normally work on Subaru's. We just finished a ej251 swap into a 97 impreza outback sport. This coming week we'll be putting an ej253 into a 01 impreza wagon with a blown motor. awd rules!

I recently purchased a 1989 Corolla Sedan with 240k. Turns out it is a rust-free 5-speed all trac sedan. I think it's an ae94 or ae95?
The engine sounds like it could be on it's way out.
So I joined here to research an engine swap. I may cheap out for now and replace the aging 4afe with a 7afe, or I might swap in a silvertop. I can't afford a 4agte at the moment. It should be a fun time.
I'm really looking forward to driving this little beast. Who knows? We might even end up swapping front/rear cusco lsd's into it.

Welcome to the nation! Our Corolla forums are very active with lots of helpful members. The sticky threads in most of the forums have links to lots of information too. Regardless of fixing that engine or swapping it out, you should be able to get some help on that project.

Welcome to the forums!

Congrats on the purchase of the Corolla. It'll be considerably different to work on than the Subarus you're used to . The 4A-GE silvertop swap is quite a popular choice, and performs really well in such a lightweight car. A 4A-FE or 7A-FE is a good place to start though if money is tight. You could even choose to go down the 7A-GE route. There's plenty of information available here, so I'm sure you'll learn a lot in regards to the swap. If you have any questions about the site, just let me or one of the other staff members know

Enjoy, and good luck with the swap!
