Hi from Maine

Hi I'm from Waterville, ME and my girlfriend's father just gave me a 1987 Toyota Pickup RWD that has been sitting 4-5 years.. It has a 4cyl 4 speed with 99,000 miles.. Body looks pretty good and the frame looks decent but really couldn't get that great of a look yet as it's parked in the woods...
We got it started with a jump and motor sounds real good... Clutch was stuck and took some working it to get it to go in and out.. Hopefully I'll be registering it and insuring it to drive it home next week... I gotta pick up a battery.. Looks like Walmart has the best deal.. I'm on a low budget...
Also my girlfriend has a Pontiac Vibe... This looks like a pretty informative site and am looking forward to joining here..

Welcome to the nation!

I love projects like those. There's so much uncertainty involved that it seems to make the challenge that much more enjoyable. I hope it treats you well. Being a Hilux, the chances are it will

Enjoy the forums!

Thanks for the welcomes... I'll try and get some pics of it burried in the woods... should be a pretty good before and after thing... It's covered in pine pitch right now or some kind of moss/mold stuff.. My experience with that stuff is it sometimes preserves the paint and some elbow grease should get it looking good... I've been scouring the pre 88 forum for homework... Sounds like I may have a diamond in the rough.. I'm a biker and haven't owned a car in over 4 years and I need to find a job so this thing is a godsend..

What's up man, I'm originally from the guilford area, like 2.5 hours north of you. How long has it been on the woods. How's the underneath look. the amount of salt on the roads in the winter is ridiculous, unless you guys use sand instead.

Hey Bud... Well Guilford's only bout an hour from here... Just bending over and looking frame didn't look bad..I didn't crawl around as the ground was wet... he said he didn't use it much in the winter.. Frame looked better than his 01 Dodge plow truck with 26K miles... Now that thing is rotting away... I borrowed it once and lost a front brake line and come to found out a rear line was blown when he dropped it off so I had 0 brakes... AND he had already replaced a line the year before... They use sand here but spray Calcium Chloride on it and does a job on frames and steel lines... I'll give it a better look see when I get it home here..
