. I recently fitted an aftermarket exhaust system to my 93' Corolla sedan and got a lot of rasp the first time around. I wasn't after the raspy sound though, so I experimented with a couple of different resonators in order to get rid of it.
Since you're after a raspy sound, put on a header, 2" exhaust piping, remove the catalytic converter if it's legal to do so where you live (this will causes lots of rasp when removed) and only install one resonator.

The sound you want to achieve ultimately comes down to the size of exhaust piping you use, the style of muffler, and how many resonators you install. Have fun!
