Greetings

Hi all,

My first Toyota was a 1990 Corolla that I bought for $800. It had 213k miles. When I got rid of it 4 years later, it had 278k miles and I barely put any effort or money into maintaining it - it just had to go since I had neglected it for so long. I bought it just to get by for a little while, had no idea it would be such a great car.

Now I'm driving a '95 Geo Prizm (i.e. another Corolla) and decided to stop in here... because I'd like to take care of this one

I'm one of those types who can fix a lot of minor problems on a vehicle and perform regular upkeep, but when it gets more complicated than say, replacing an alternator or a radiator I know only enough to be dangerous, maybe you guys can give me some advice when necessary

-Owen

Welcome aboard the forums, Owen! I've got a lot of family in the St. Louis area myself, so I know it pretty well. Let me know if you have any questions about the forums.

So are you saying the newer models don't rock quite as hard, or we just don't know how they're gonna hold up yet?

I am not a fan of most Toyota's made in the last 10 years! (and this is coming from the most die-hard Toyota fan, aka im currently designing a new tattoo that incorporates the toyota symbol)

The Corollas are the same size as old Camrys, hugeeee and over-weight!

If i wanted to buy a new Toyota and wanted anything even close to the handling and fun of my 1990 Corolla SR5 I'd have to buy a Yaris or a Scion (which only just came to Canada).

Plus there is NO WAY that any of the newer Corollas will still be driven, around, or thought of like the ones of old.

I think the tendency for all auto manufacturers is to make everything increasingly wider, taller, larger engines, etc... at least in America, this is just like everything else :-( Hopefully the newer Toyotas last as long as the old ones, that's why I'm a fan :-)

Thanks for the welcome, both of you guys.

Welcome to the forums!

The Geo Prizm will no doubt be as reliable as your 1990 Corolla was. The 4A-FE/7A-FE engine is very durable. There's an abundance of information available in the 7th Gen Corolla forum, so there's plenty to learn and lots to do. I'd recommend checking out the DIY Sticky thread at the top of that forum as it contains some great links.

See you around
