3rd Generation Driving Granny's Camry

Hey Y'all,

I've recently introduced a '94 Camry (XLE, 5S-FE, 4-speed auto, taupe/taupe) into my stable. It was my grandmother's car until she could no longer drive, whereupon I bought it from her for $2K*, a darned good deal for a car with only 70K on it that had spent 90% of its time garaged.

I've already got a hot rod ('57 Chevy Bel Air), a modded sports sedan ('86 BMW 535i), and a beater/hauler ('84 Mercedes 300td), so the Camry is going to stay a mostly-stock unobtrusive-looking commuter. Near-term plans are to install some H&R OE Sport Springs and Bilsteins or Tokicos. I'm resisting the urge to go on the hunt for stiffer sway bars and upgraded brakes!

That's about it!

-Shawn

*Some relatives were trying to lie to the state and say the title was lost, then get her to sell them the car for $1 so a niece of mine could have it. I'm sure it would have ended up totaled like every other car my niece has had. Too bad for them that I've got power of attorney and already had the title in a safe deposit box.

Welcome to the forums, Shawn!

Both of your cars sound fantastic. Feel free to post some pics sometime! . There's plenty to learn here and lots of knowledgeable people to meet. You'll no doubt fit in well.

Happy posting!

Thanks for the welcomes, folks!

Kiwi-Corolla, I don't have any pics of the 300td or the Camry handy, but here are a couple for the Bel Air and the 535i:

BTW, I know BMW E28s look much better with the non-US bumpers, but I don't plan on installing the Euro version any time soon!

Thanks for the compliment, but it's really a 30-footer! You can see there's front-end damage if you look at the front fender (dent running from wheel well towards headlight, trim standing off the surface). My maternal grandparents were the first owners, I used to sit in it and pretend to drive when I was a kid, and it was my first car.

How much has the engine been modded from the original?

99.99% of the entire drivetrain is non-original. The part that counts for the remaining 0.01% is the right-side motor mount.

In short, it's got a 350 with the usual go-fast stuff, a TKO-600 close-ratio 5-speed, and a 3.23 Posi 10-bolt diff out of a mid-'70s Trans Am. It's got lots of other mods, including Super Bell discs up front, Addco sway bars, cut front springs, station wagon rear springs, Vintage Air HVAC, plus some other stuff. It sat for the last ten years until I put the 5-speed in this past fall.
