Hi I am traveller 1, I reside in New York. Glad to find a place to ask questions about my toyota Highlander before having to put my car up on the lift for no reason.
Hello there, and welcome to Toyota Nation! As you can see from my sig pic I'm a 2008 Highlander owner myself. Which model year of Highlander do you own?

I own a vintage 2003 V6, 4WD, limited edition with buffalo rails and moon roof. Runs like a dream with 105,000 mi. under her belt. but sniff...sniff I flunked the emissions test this morning.

Okay, cool. Failing the emissions test can be as simple as not having your engine hot enough. Happened to me many years ago when I drove a half mile down to a local garage and promptly failed the test. I mentioned it to a mechanic buddy of mine and he said to take my car out onto the freeway or local 50 MPH+ road and let the engine heat up thoroughly for at least 15 minutes, then test it. I did that and passed. Still, that may not solve every test fail issue if the numbers for a particular parameter are way off. What did your readout say?

You've certainly come to the right place. There's a thread here about almost everything, so there's always plenty to do and loads to learn. Feel free to browse around and make yourself at home
Happy posting!

Thanks TrailDust...actually as it turns out I started another thread in the highlander forum and recieved some good advice along the lines of what you are saying. And yes you are right I just haven't been driving much at all coupled with some very bad weather here in NYC so I plan to give my girl a good ride this week and take her back for the test.

Okay, great. Glad to know that the 1st Gen forum has been helpful to you. I'll be interested to see how your Highlander does on the next test.

Yeah me too but really though I am so appreciative of the info I got here. So I am going out to run it now and then I am going to take it back this afternoon.

She been so good to me...I mean that car is good...shoulda heard her singing when I decellerated and then accelerated. Best year I think for the highlander...but then what do I know. I only drive and pray nothing goes wrong.
