Hello Everyone,

I've been lurking for a while, and finally decided to join the discussion. I've always wanted an older Toyota. I've had my eye out for one for a long time but never came across the right deal. In October I bought a 86 regular cab Pickup with 4wd and a 22r engine with a 5speed very inexpensively. being an original Michigan truck its rusty but trusty. the amazing thing, it has 92,000 original miles on it! the guy I bought it from said it was a lot truck for a dealership for a long time and when he bought it he only used it around his farm.

Thanks for all the knowledge I've gained so far.

Welcome aboard!

Congrats on the purchase of the truck. With that sort of mileage, it should last forever . There's a wealth of information here, from maintenance to modifications, so feel free to browse around and make yourself at home

Happy posting!

welcome to the forums good deal there just check the frame rails esepcially in rear at leaf spring mounting brackets to the frame rails and along bottom of the rails under front of bed and rear of cab they like to rot through here and this is what killed my '88 when the frame broke back there. i didnt realize it until i was messing around when i had the truck up on our lift and was poking around with a screwdriver and it went through the rail hmm..

a few weeks later it broke at the rear frotn most spring hanger and collapsed the frame rail, it was only 140k miles truck.
sure these run forever, as long as the frames dont rust and break

back in the day it was a common thing on other kinds of trucks too, i know someone here who had a full size chevy truck break in half while they are driving it, due to rusted frames

good luck!

Yeah I have an older 4runner sr5 88 to be exact that is rusting out right behind the front passenger side tire, there is a sway bar or something bolted there that has damn near fallen off but it still runs extremely great I was going to fix it but it may be more work than what it’s worth considering it has 249,500 original miles. Rust was common on all older trucks no matter what type I had an 88 ford f-150 and the frame snapped in half under the passenger side door.
