newbie intro

Greetings all,
I live in W PA an have owned the following Toyotas 1985 Camry, 1986 one ton Toyota Sunland Express motor home, 1989 (fj62) Land Cruiser, 1989 Corolla all-trac. Currently we own 1995 Corolla w/ 77,000 miles, 2007 Camry w/45,000 miles and a 2009 Highlander Hybrid w/ 11,000 miles. I bought my Highlander in July of 2009 when I participated in the cash for clunkers program when I traded in my 1989 Land Cruiser w/ 188,000 miles. I loved this truck but rust took its toll. In 20+ years my wife never missed a day of work due to bad weather as long as we owned the cruiser. My wife missed one day this past winter. I still belong to a Land Cruiser group. I have made friends with an internet Toyota parts manager and get such good info and OEM parts that I would have a difficult time buying from another car company. I have never used Toyota's TIS internet service, but plan to in the near future. My son bought me a Hella type halogen light with wiring harness to add to my Highlander. I have read many posts concerning Toyo A20 tires. I am driving about 4,000 miles for vacation travel. I am very concerned about my A20 tires which are pretty well worn. I would also like to thank all the posters who have given good advise and hope I can contribute in the future.

I'm at the high end of what Highlander owners report for mileage, but that's probably because I coast as much as I can in the city and don't chomp down on the gas at every light or stop sign, and on the freeway I keep it at 70 MPH for the most part. Anyway, I average 19/20 city and 26 (at 70 MPH)/28 (at 65 MPH) highway. In fact, I just had a tankful that I drove a 30/70 city/highway split, and I got 25.1 MPG for the tank. My Highlander is a non-hybrid V6. Oh, yah, I'm ecstatic about the mileage!

On my Camry up to 40mpg without trailer. 20mpg with tent trailer. 89 All trac 20mpg, 86 motorhome w/22re 4cy 12-15 mpg, 89 Land Cruiser 12 in city up to 15 on highway. No mileage penalty pulling tent trailer with Land Cruiser. 9-10mpg at 20 years old on LC. Of all my vehicles #1 favorite was Land Cruiser, #2 1985 Camy stick, #3 1989 Corolla wagon all-trac, #4 1995 Corolla 3 sp auto. Corollas bought used from family members and motorhome bought used. Mileage on my Highlander hybrid in city traffic 26mpg. I have come close but never reached 27mpg. On highway I ave between 24 and 30, pulling tent trailer mileage drops to low 20's. I keep Highlander set on econ mode which is plenty powerful after driving my 5,500 Lb. LC with a 4.0 straight 6cy. On Cash for clunkers I would have traded in my motorhome, but its posted mileage in pickup form was too high to qualify.I am retired and try to drive HH in a way to maximize mileage. I keep looking at Land Cruisers but probably won't by another one due to high cost
