Hi I drive my late dad's 1992 Camry V6. It only has 80k miles. Now it's leaking transmission fluid and they tell me at the dealership that I may need a power steering pump and maybe a new rack/pinion. Right now I just have to check the leakage and see... Should I spend money on this old car? Help!

Yes! I would spend money on a 93 V6 with 80k miles....but definitely NOT at the stealership. See if you can find another mechanic. Get a second opinion from someone that is more trustworthy.

Thanks, I will get a second opinion. I just noticed that it is only 77K miles old even though it will be 20 yrs old come November 2012,

Be aware that the timing belt and water pump are coming due for replacement, additional expenses to consider. Like eyeball said, though, given the age and mileage I'd buy it as well if I know the previous owner and how the vehicle was driven and maintained.

I've taken good care of it... Thanks for advice regarding timing belt & water pump. They told me at the dealership that a little leakage is not uncommon in old cars, and just watch it for the time being. Antifreeze fluid was leaking because some clamp was not 'clamped' properly when mechanic replaced valve there. So for now, I'll keep driving it and watching for major transmission fluid leaks. Thanks!
