At 30K i believe maint schedule calls for oil/filter change, cabin filter, air filter, i may go beyond and pull/examine and replace spark plugs with new (and some antiseize on threads as well).
Anybody here ever check valve clearances?

This might sound stupid, but you have changed the oil prior to this right?
You shouldn't need plugs yet, but it's your money and your car.
I have checked valve clearances on a motorcycle, but not on a matrix. I know for my HL they only do it audibly (I disagree with this, but they want to charge me an arm and a leg to actually pul the covers. When they do the timing belt I will get them adjusted) I would imagine they have some magical part that adjusts the valves making it nearly impossible to do with conventional tools. Is there a haynes manual available for the matrix yet?

LOL, yes, prior to my ownership the car was dealer serviced, documented up till 20K.
The 25K service can't be documented. I acquired at 28K.
I'll just do 30K service on my own to adhere to schedule.
No, i haven't seen a manual for Gen 2 Matrix yet. Looking.

Man, dealer really dropped the ball on that one. Dealership I worked at, every used vehicle right when it came in on trade got a fresh oil change.

i concur ....thats the way it should be.
Been around the block long enough to know....trust...but verify.
Matrix so far has been a blast to drive, routine service a snap.
Both Matrix and I at peace now.
