Power steering

Hi
Today while changing engine oil, i noticed that the rubber boot on the right power steering rod was torn and there was evidance of fluid leak. I am not sure since how manu days or months ago this happened, but i never found any drops on the ground. The fluid level is low, but the power steering is still working. Clearly the issue needs to be fixed but my question is
1. would this issue exacerbate if i dont fix it as is for next couple of months?
2. is there a safety risk?
3. I am not a technician or mechanic (but good understanding of mechanical parts). Is this a "do it yourself" task? I hope only one side can be repaired or replaced. I hope i do not have to replace the entire power steering assembly.

Welcome to the forum! From the sounds of things there is a oil seal gone in your steering rack, unless the leak is running off of somewhere else. It is possible to have steering racks repaired, but they usually have to come out of the car.
