Unhappy So I'm a newbie...

OK,

I'll admit it. I'm a newbie. I'm 34, kinda in a midlife crisis (bored to tears) and I've decided I want to start my first project car. Now I don't know much about cars but I have a technical background so I can learn just about anything and I'm not afraid to admit when I don't know something.

Right off the bat I'm pretty sure I'm getting into a world of confusion but hey life's that way normally for me so nothing new huh? Presently I own a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally and it's a nice car and I've read up on them enough they take real well to after market Mods, but being as it's relatively new parts are expensive, the car is complex for a newbie and I really don't wanna screw up my daily ride just because I wanna play.

I've been slowly starting to read up on street racing and the different cars and styles that people take and have taken a liking to Toyota's which I've always liked anyway. One of my first favorites was the 82-83 Celica GT liftback. I love it's lines and it looks like she handles real sweet. From there it kinda naturally follows that the Corolla GT-S (Trueno AE-86) and the Supra's catch my eye as well.

Right now I'm trying to research these types of cars and find out the specs on them so I can figure out what I need to look at as far as getting one and tricking it out, but I'm having a hard time in finding detailed specifics. But then again I really don't know where to start. I just want to build me a racer that fits my style, I love high speed cornering, drifting, and anything dealing with controlling a car right out there on the edge. And Now I want to learn how to do it myself.

So if anyone wouldn't mindslipping a few beginning pointers or possible directions to a newbie who's into "taky" cliche's drop me a line.

Thanks

Thanks for the money pit warning, but I'm not concerned with that too much. I figure I'd blow my money on take out and beer anyway so why not put into something that'll hang around awhile...lol

But here's my first stupid question...

What's a Hachiroku?

Thanks Bud,

Null perspiration on the pun, incidental punishment is the price of being a newbie. But this does show the kinda information I'm missing...lol

Hey. This is the model newb. At least what he said had facts and some research behind it. And he didn't go, Hey where can i get those cool stickers and how can i go faster?

And for supra...They will cost you a lot but very good cars. They were made to handle a ton of power. I think about 800-1000 hp. I like the last gen best.

What I know [insert joke here]:

My mom's 83 Celica GTS (liftback) is still running strong, coming up on 155k miles. I'm pretty sure the chassis code is RA64 (you'll need this to look up suspension parts, probably), and our stock engine is the 22RE. It's 2.4 liters, I think, with 105ish horsepower? It's the last RWD Celica, too.

I've gotten curious a couple of times about the car, so I researched a bit, and found out the JDM version had a 3T-GTE in it, which is a pretty damn sweet engine, so I hear. I think you're gonna have to mod it a little bit to get it to fit, but it should, for the most part, drop in.

My research was pretty brief and shortlived, so feel free to doubt me and check up on what I said.
