Question Noob here

Hey all!

As you may have noticed, I'm a noob. Not just to the site, but to the tuner culture or whatever its called these days. My first car was a '93 Chrysler Concorde. A good, big, a fairly fast car. Then I moved to college, and was without a car for two years. My grandmother, being the nice person she is, bought me a '99 Toyota Camry that was and still is in excellent condition. I got it with around 44k miles on it and only minor dents and dings in the body. The car runs great, and I am planning on keeping it for a while. On that note, I figure since I will have the car for a while, I might as well make it cooler than it is. There's only one problem. I don't know diddly about cars. Maybe I could change my oil, but that'd be about it (one time I helped rip apart the block on an old supra, which is as dirty as my hands have gotten working on a car). Since I don't know anything, I have looked around for help on the web, when this guy recommended that I check out this site. So here I am, a noob, just lookin' for some pointers and advice.

My car is completely stock. At the moment, I am saving up to put an Alpine DVD player in it, since I spend a lot of time in my car, I thought I might as well have something to do in it. And of course, once I get that, I plan on putting some bump in the trunk, but thats all I know, and I don't even know how to do that, my friends are gonna help me. However, my friends don't know a whole lot about engines and whatnot, so I'm at a loss in that department. Where should I start to make my car an all around good car (performance, looks, accesories, etc...). I was told to go with exhaust or suspension, but even then, I don't know what is going on. Are there any books I could pick up to learn the basics, like a "Cars for Dummies" or something. Or any other places/things that could be helpful in my quest for knowledge? Let me know. Thanks, and peace out.

Sorry its so long, just wanted to try and get all I could in there.

First of all WELCOME!!!!!!!!

Lotsa good people and info here and I've only been here a month and I learned alot already.

Best advice I've got is first, try to find a Haynes Repair Manual for your car or maybe a Factory Service Manual but being a 99 that shouldn't be too hard, your manual should be in the glovebox, hopefully....those are ALWAYS a good idea to have...they will help you on a lot of things....other than that...you can do searches on this forum to find out answers to your questions (someone may have asked the same questions already, so you can search for the thread with the answer, cool feature). If you can't find what you are looking for then ask away.

And when you get bored, go to the off topic section and talk to everyone about the most useless crap we can all find...it's fun.....
