Hey all!
Hey! My name is Bracham Holfeld. I'm a single 20-year-old guy from Herbert, Saskatchewan, Canada, currently living and working in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. I signed up for this forum a bit ago, but recently bought my first Toyota other than a Supra, so now I am frequenting here more often and thought I'd say hey!
I'm the kind of guy who doesn't like trusting shops to do his mechanical work, and so I do all my own work. Cheaper that way too, and I learn alot more! I want to possibly learn to do bodywork, and then I can restore my own vehicles.
I have owned two Nissan vehicles, and currently own a 1984 Nissan 4x4, which is running great, but the previous Nissans (well, one '76 Datsun pickup, and one '84 Nissan pickup) both took lots of maintenance, so when I switched to Toyota I found a major difference!
I currently own three Toyota vehicles. Besides the fact that the second one (details coming up) has a shot engine, I have found Toyota vehicles to be low maintenance vehicles.
The first is a 1983 MKII Supra L-type, totally stock with the 5-speed, besides having no cat, and the 4.10:1 differential I put in when I blew out the 3.73:1. Currently that car is sitting in the backyard, as I hit an elk with it, and then shortly after got rear-ended at about 40 km/h by an '01 Intrepid. Engine is still strong...pulls right to redline! I'm waiting for time and money to rebuild it and put it in my other Supra. That car is also a 1983 MKII, but is the P-type, and has an automatic transmission. It is currently sitting because of engine problems too serious to fix. I'm not exactly sure what is all wrong, but there's a hole in the oilpan, and the key in the bottom cam belt pulley sheared off.
My latest Toyota aquisition is a 1987 Toyota Tercel wagon 4x4 SR5. I bought it when I moved to Alberta so I wouldn't have to safety either of my Saskatchewan cars. I paid $400 for it, which was a total deal, seeing as there was next to no problems with it! The previous owner figured that one of the CV joints was shot, and so was selling it cheap. Both CV's are solid, and I've put almost 10,000 kilometers on that car since I started driving it around the end of November or beginning of December, 2004. It currently has 292,000 kilometers on it. It gets up to 40 mpg on the highway, doesn't burn much, if any oil, runs great, has started in as cold as -30 degrees celcius without being plugged in, 4x4 works great, body is in decent shape besides a couple dents (very little rust, though), and the interior is in great shape!
I just replaced the front brake pads about a month ago, and other than changing the oil (regular maintenance of course) and replacing a headlight, haven't had to do anything else to it! I will need new tires shortly, though. And I want to cut out the cat sometime soon.
I just recently wired my old stereo into the wagon, and the subbox fits perfectly under the shelf behind the back seat. I still need to buy and install new tweeters and mids.
I plan on doing limo tint all around, besides the front doors, which will probably get a lighter tint. I would like to do a small suspension lift of about an inch or so, and possibly see if I can find some decent rims for cheap. A functional hood scoop is also in the plans for this car, and possibly someday a conversion to a turbo engine.
Right now I am low on money, so I am simply driving this car, changing the oil and other regular maintenance, and it just keeps going great!
Toyota! All the way!
