1996 RAV & 1985 Corolla owner from sunny Southa Africa
Hi to all Toyota owners all over the world. I'm based in South Africa, on the East Coast, and own a '96 RAV 4 5-door, manual and a '85 Corolla, 1.6 GL, also manual. The RAV has over 300,000 km (close to 200,000 miles) on the clock and Corolla, which I just use as a 'runaround' in town, is approaching 200,000 km's (120,000 miles). Both are still going strong, as you'd expect.. ? My main reason for joining the forum is to get some advice on maintenance, as I believe in preventative maintenance, and in general like to keep my vehicles in perfect running condition.
The fuel consumption of my RAV started deteriorating noticably over the past few months, this eventhough I service it in accordance with the maintenance schedule, and use only top quality fluids and replacement parts from the local Toyota dealer. Obivous things like tire pressure, brake settings, plug wire condition, etc. are within spec, and to add to this my driving habit hasn't changed...
My thoughts are that the fuel system, specifically the fuel injectors, might be the cause of this drop in fuel efficiency, as I haven't had it checked or replaced, ever. Or is there another area where I should look first ?
If it is indeed the fuel injectors any advice on how to do it right and make the job easier, will be appreciated.
Regards
Strydom Fick
