hey fellow toyota lovers!!!!! I have a question

just bought a 1992 toyota paseo with 172,000 miles for a "meantime car". As in I can save enough money to get a newer model. The car seems to run well, starts right up, idles fine BUT...... i hear a clicking from under the hood when I accelerate, usually between 1500 and 2500 rpm's. The car was sitting for 2 years but seems to run fine beside that...... now for more on the sound- it sounds like a card between bicycle spokes???? I am not sure what it is and was wondering if anyone with experience with cars had any advice as to what this is and how I can stop it..... any help would be great!!!

Does it do it more when you turn and accelerate, like from a standstill around a corner? If so, you may have a bad CV joint somewhere in the drivetrain. With that much mileage they are probably close to worn out, especially if they have never been replaced. That would be my guess. Unless it's coming from the engine itself. Then you may have a valve lifter sticking. Hard to tell without actually hearing it.

it does it at any time when I accelerate, even at a standstill, i was actually thinking it was a problem with the detonation, cause it sounds almost like a rattle.........
