Newb needs advice

Hello all,

I am brand new to the website and like most, need some advice. First let me explain:

I was the owner of a 2004 Ford Ranger FX4 Level II. I say "was" because 2 days ago some idiot ran a red light and totalled my truck. It is a complete write off. Now insurance is going to be cutting me a cheque to get a new vehicle. I am looking at 2 vehicles now. One is the 2005 Jeep Rubicon the other is a 2005 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. I off-road a couple times a month and need a rig to bring my mountain-bike up to the top of some gnarly trails a couple times a week.

Now for the advice: What are some pros/cons of the 4x4 Tacoma? What should I look at before purchasing one? I would be looking at having a lift kit installed. Probably 6" and maybe some 35" tires. Can the tacoma handle that without major modifications? ie: are the axles strong enough? What do you guys think?

Any advice or suggestions are welcome. Also, if I missed anything please feel free to add.

thanks again,

adam

Welcome to TN ranger33. Defintiely search the 2005 Tacoma forum we have here.

The new Tacoma's are a great truck. They are having small problems, nothing major. I'd rec. holding out for a '06 if possible, should be around Sep. when they start showing up.

In the meantime, buy a 1K dollar toyota corolla or something to drive around
